Our Commitment to Sustainability
To SCA Property Group 'sustainability' represents the preparation of our business for long-term performance, our responsibility as an organisation to respond to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, the way in which we engage with our stakeholders and the management of ESG risks to investment value.
We recognise that good sustainability performance is now integral to business in the property sector and many of our key stakeholders have growing requirements around ESG issues.
In 2015 SCA Property Group launched a new Sustainability Policy (click here) and a simple three-objective Sustainability Strategy outlined below. We are actively implementing these, both of which lay the foundations for SCA's long-term commitment.
Particularly exciting to us is our first objective, Stronger Communities. SCA Property Group's shopping centres represent hubs in communities across regional Australia, being economic centres and places where community members meet. Our centres have been engaging with their communities for many years and we are now building on that experience to scale up the positive impact we can have as Australia's largest owner of neighbourhood shopping centres.
With regards to environmental performance, we are currently piloting LED lighting and solar panels in our shopping centres. These will reduce both operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
Our Sustainability Strategy is designed to be focused on the ESG issues which we recognise as being our greatest priority at this early phase of our sustainability program.
In addition to our core objectives SCA Property Group is also improving its employment, work heath and safety and governance practices and reducing its corporate environmental footprint. We have also achieved a 5.5 star NABERS Energy Tenancy rating for our Sydney Head Office.
